Kalathos of Iberian ceramics with painted decoration, from the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula. The body is cylindrical with a flat rim at the top and two braided handles attached to the body. The painted decoration in a vinous colour is divided into two friezes with plant motifs separated by lines of varying thickness. There is a 'wolf teeth' motif at the rim.
It is a characteristic Iberian type of container that mimics a Greek original, almost always painted and found a variety of sizes and decorations. The arrangement and decorative motifs can identify the different productions of the various Iberian peoples, like this piece, characteristic of the people of Bastetania. Its use could be functional ─storage and transport─ or it might be used as a ceremonial vessel.
