Description

Small translucent blown glass ointment jar, with a slightly bluish hue and pyriform bottle shape, with an elongated cylindrical neck and edge with rounded lip outside. It comes from Empúries (L'Escala, Alt Empordà) and dates to the 1st-2nd centuries AD. It is an example of the multiple glass containers used during Roman times to contain various cosmetic products, oils, ointments, or medicines. These types of containers are often associated with the funeral world as part of the grave goods that accompanied the deceased, and owing to this they have reached the present.
